This is a sweet little jam or marmalade pot. It is made of fine bone china and decorated with an image of a Bedlington Terrier. It is one of a series of Royal Grafton Pottery items that I have listed.
Dimensions: The pot is 4 inches in height and 2 ¾ inches at the rim. It has a chrome metal spoon with a Bedlington finial. All the gilding is present with no losses or rubbing. These pieces are now hard to source - and this is reflected in my asking price.
These pieces of fine bone china feature a side view of a Bedlington Terrier on each item. The china was produced by the British pottery company A. B. Jones & Sons, which used the "Royal Grafton" trade name. The motif appeared on a range of items produced by Royal Grafton in the middle of the 20th century.
The business was founded in 1876 in Longton, Staffordshire, England. They were known for producing high-quality, fine bone china tableware and giftware. The company remained family-run for much of its history until it was eventually sold in the late 1960s.
The Royal Grafton back stamp on the base was used by the company from 1957 onwards. This design is now discontinued.
The Bedlington Terrier originated in the village of Bedlington in the north of England. It has the longest unbroken pedigree of any dog, stretching back to the late 1700’s.
