This is a very stunning piece of vintage Murano glassware.
It must have taken great skill to make this bowl / ashtray - and it looks just fantastic on display in a modernist mid-century interior.
It is a substantial piece and weights in at 1.6 kg unpacked. Due to the weight of this piece - I am probably going to have to send with Parcelforce48 - which makes postage a little more expensive - but you dont want it damaged in transit and this guarantees postage in a much larger and more secure box.
The bowl is 6 1/2 inches in diameter and with a height of 2 3/4 inches.
There are four different glass colours in this amazing bowl.
The interior is an apple (lime) green glass - this is a cased layer to the outside of ice white - there is a wee flaw in the layering where a little part of the edging is not applied completely in line with the rim - as photographed (last close up photo in my sequence).
The vibrant green layer has three little indentations on the rim - indicating this it was originally designed as an ashtray (no evidence of course of it ever being used as one).
If that is not enough ... there is also a freely applied band of colours all around.. the band is made of swirls or coloured streaking in dark turquoise, browns, burgundy and other green shades.
All this is cased in clear glass - so four different layers or additions here.
There is a polished pontil to the base.
My photographs don't really do this fine piece of hand made Italian glass justice.
Good bit of weight to it - and it would look splendid on a teak or rosewood coffee table or bureau.
No chips or cracks.
Given the "making flaw" on the rim section - I have offered at a very fair price to take this into consideration. I have not seen another quite like this one before. You won't be disappointed with it.
Sadly, I would be able to post this outside of the UK - as it would be very expensive.
