This is a stylish bone china coffee set by Susie Cooper (1902 - 1995).
It looks totally stunning and comes in this much harder-to-find Mercury Pattern that dates to 1967. The main body is of glazed white fine bone china. The pattern consists of bands of vertical very dark blue vertical bands - and on each band is a series of little white abstract shapes. This design looks a little like shooting stars and relates to the interest in space exploration at the end of the 1960s.
The design was produced just after Cooper's pottery firm was fully incorporated into the Wedgwood Group in 1966. It is an early and much sought after early Cooper design for the company.
This set is complete - and consists of 15 pieces: The large coffee pot, the milk or cream jug, the open sugar bowl, six coffee cups and six matching saucers.
Dimensions: The Coffee Pot measures 8 inches to the top of the knop on the lid - and is 8 1/2 inches from handle to spout. The open sugar bowl is just under 1 3/4 inches in height and has a diameter of 3 inches. The milk jug is 2 1/4 inches in height, has a diameter of 2 3/4 inches and is 4 1/2 inches from handle to spout. The cups are just over 2 1/2 inches in height and have a diameter of 2 1/2 inches. The saucers are 5 1/2 inches.
As you can see from my images - this set is in pristine condition with no damages of any kind - it looks like it has never been used and is as good today as when it was made exactly 50 years ago!
As mentioned, this pattern is now rather scarce and would fit in with minimalistic 1960s Space Age interios.
My price takes into account that relative rarity of a complete Mercury set and its exemplary condition. You will not be disappointed with it. The price is broken down as follows: £40 for the coffee pot. Just over £8 for each cup saucer. The milk and sugar bowl is £20
