This is a very stylish piece of vintage Scottish jewellery. It is made by Ceard as annotated on the reverse. The design is called Arran and it was inspired by the fantastic landscape of the island.
The necklace takes the form of an elongated lozenge with an openwork abstract design. It is made of matt-finished pewter and is in very good vintage condition. It is being sold all nice and clean, ready to wear.
It comes with its original grey flock box - marked Ceard inside the lid. It is rare to find these pendants with the box.
Dimensions: The length of the main pendant section is 7 cm x 3 cm at the widest - the length of the chain is 46 cm (18 inches) so a nice long length. The chain is NOT silver but a white metal one. It has a nice lobster claw to make it easier to put on.
There is a large sboule loop on the back to thread the chain through - so it is very easy to replace the chain if you wish to.
Ceard is a Gaelic word, meaning maker or craftsperson. The Ceard Company dates to the 1970s and was a collective of Scottish jewellers who made fine pewter items. The company's lead designer was John Forsyth. Their pieces of pewter jewellery are inspired by Scottish places and wildlife but are made in a modernist style.
