This is a vintage piece of Murano glass. It has come from my own private collection and I have decided to list it. I have had it since the 1990s and it was vintage then. I am thinking that it dates to the 1960s or early 1970s.
It is certainly an unusual and harder to source piece of vintage Murano glass. Sadly, it doesnt have a sticker to authenticate the maker.
The glass model is a little round puffer fish. He has been hand-blown and his body is a hollow ball shape with a formed open mouth at the front. The body has pale grey and bright blue swirls that you often find on Italian Empoli glass vases. The model then has applied green and clear glass fins on top and to the sides. He has a large triangular red fin cased in clear glass to the back. I love his little eyes. They are made of applied red and white blobs. The little fish is raised up for display. He is placed on a red and clear glass applied stand. The upstand is made of three red glass bobbles and the foot is flat clear glass. The model is stable with no rocking or movement when it is on display.
There are no chips, cracks or scratches to the glass. There are two little air bubbles in clear foot, as photograph.
Height is 6 3/4 inches. His body has a diameter of about 3 1/2 inches at the widest point. The length from front to back of the red tail is 5 1/4 inches. The base diameter is 3 1/4 inches.
He is a sturdy wee thing that is made of thick glass with a good bit of weight to him. He is a quality and well made piece of vintage Italian glass and this is reflected in my asking price. It must have taken a lot of skill to make Mr Puffer.
