This is an interesting vintage paperweight. It is a optic weight made by Webb Corbett for Royal Doulton. It is a lovely amethyst shade.
The paperweight is a dome shape one. It is a plain lilac colour and design relies on the application of a myriad of polished facets all over the outer surface. On the top of the dome - there is a little faceted flower and further down a ring of twelve small oval facets. Below are another ring of twelbe slightly larger polished facets. The base is engraved with a large star.
The optic effect comes from all the facets acting like "magic mirrors" that you might see at a funfair - the images and angles you see get all distorted like a prism effect. When you look in the weight through the top of the dome - you see the flower surrounded by a halo of rays (created by the star in the base). It is very three-dimensional in effect. It has been difficult to photograph so I hope that my images does the paperweight justiice!

History: Webb Corbett is one of the great names in English lead-crystal glass. It was set up in 1897.
The original company name was Thomas Webb and Corbett Limited, and it was always a completely separate operation from Thomas Webb and Sons which later became Webb's Crystal Glass Co. Ltd., another famous Stourbridge crystal glass company. Thomas Webb and Corbett Ltd changed their name to Webb Corbett Ltd in the 1930s.
In 1969 the company was taken over by Royal Doulton Company, and in 1986 they stopped using the Webb Corbett name. Glass from the former Webb Corbett glassworks was then produced under the name Royal Doulton Crystal until this glassworks closed down.
