This is a set of four little vintage - probably daing to the 1980s. The style of the little iconic Iitala label dates to this period. The words Made in Finland appears on labels at this time.
The design of course is much earlier in origin and it was designed by the celebrated Finnish glass maestro, Tapio Wirkkala. This design now know as "Tapio" was first made for 1954 Milan Triennial. It features a detail that Wirkkala had introduced only the year before - the technique is called "stick blowing" where a wet stick is inserted into the glass to create a decorative air bubble.
These glasses have always been popular - and they are still made today and are still top-quality hand-blown pieces.
These ones are now over 40 years old - all this stickers and in excellent condition. They are more for shots or perhaps in Finland for schnapps. They are great size for making toasts with or for a quick cheeky winter warmer.
Dimensions: smaller glasses they are each just under 4 1/2 inches (11 cm). This size, I believe, has now been discontinued and a bit harder to source. I am listing at a very fair price of £10 each glass - which is a very fair one. .
