This is stylish little Swedish pin dish or ashtray which dates to the early 1980s.. It is very minimalistic in form - and is made of a fine white ceramic with a geometric design applied in a glossy black colour. The black colour is in the central reservoir, the little rest section and around the side. There is a little square painted lozenge on the top with the Rorstrand mark and crowns. It is hard to make this out as the mark is so small
Underneath the wee dish is with the Rorstrand Sweden mark and a facsimile of the maker's signature: Rolf Sinnemark.
Sinnemark was and influentail Swedish designer who was best known for his geometric style and his functional pieces. He was a designer in glass and ceramics as well as in industrial design. During the 1970s and 1980s he designed some very stylish minimalistic tablewares - and indeed lots of geometric ashtrays such as this one. He started to work for Rorstrand in 1981. It was there that he created some of his most iconic work, including his celebrated and much sought-after "Cube" porcelain in 1985.
This wee dish is also much sought after and hard to find. It is in great vintage condition with no chips or cracks, and no scratching to the glossy black area. There is however some very fine craquelure to the clear glaze. I did not notice this until I looked at the pot in close up to take the images. Please look at this to reassure yourself this is not disfiguring and I have mentioned it for complete accuracy.
The dish measures: 4 1/2 inches in diameter. If is 1 1/8 inches in height. The central dip is 2 1/4 inches.
