This is a very fine limited edition paperweight made in the 1980s by Caithness Glass paperweight; for the Edinburgh Crystal company.
The edition size was only 250 weights - and this one comes with a certificate stating that this one is No. 213.
This weight is a very sophisticated one - it has a ground colour of a very dark purple. Into the ground are set lots of little millefiori canes in the shape of a five-point star. There are latticino twisted canes forming the edges of the star. In the centre is a little lampwork thistle, as photographed.
The weight is a ball-shaped with a flattened faceted viewing panel on the top. And around the side are more polished facets - five in total. All these polished facets are quite intricate and complicated additions.
My weight is in excellent vintage condition - there are no chips or disfiguring scratches.
There is one of the tiniest little scratches - very light and a couple of mm in length near one of the facets of the side - it is so minor that I am completely unable to photograph it - and you really have to put your glasses on and look in extreme close up to see it at all. It is mentioned for accuracy - this smallest of blemishes in no way affects your enjoyment of this hard to find weight.
It has a diameter of 2 3/4 inches and a height of 2 1/4 inches.
It comes with its original claret coloured velvet presentation box. A very lovely Scottish paperweight for your collection.
