This brooch is a rarer design by Ola Gorie and not many pieces with this particular design exist.
It was designed by Ola Gorie and has the initials OMG on the back. It is hallmarked for Edinburgh and the letter P for the date 1989.
This brooch is features two strange birds with long plumse on their head.s One brid sits aloft and the other is more reclining and pushed towards the lower left of the composition. Their legs are all entwined and tangled into a undulating pattern. Ola Gorie liked to use pair of birds in her compositions relating to the Tree of Life. These designs were inspired by forms found in the Book of Kells.
The pin on the back has a roll over c-scroll closure. It also has a little loop soldered to the back - so that you can add a fine chain to the brooch (if you so wish). It is certainly beautifully made pieces of Scottish jewellery.
It is a nice large size with a diameter of 3.6 cm. It is in spotlessly clean condition and all ready to wear. The original vintage green leatherette box is also in good condition.
