This is a bit of an eye-catching vintage 9 ct gold cameo.
It has a pin on the back - so can be worn as a brooch - but also with a loop at the top, it can also be worn as a pendant from a chain (chain not included).
The cameo is shell carved and it a fairly nice bit of carving - it shows a traditional image of a pretty girl - seen in profile. She is shown looking down. She has her long hair swept back and tied up and the curls are quite delicate in nature. You can see that she wears a little drop pearl ear-ring and has a string of tiny pearls around her neck.
The shell cameo measures: 3 cm in height by 2.5 cm wide.
The more unusual thing about this particular cameo is the gold setting. This is hallmarked with a London hallmark for 9ct gold below - I cannot see the date latters - but I suspect this piece dates to the 20th century.
There is quite a lot of gold in the setting for the shell cameo - and it forms a border about a cm in width all around. The gold border is all fluted and relatively thicker gold - and with a wee rim behind. The area behind the shell carving is open and not covered with gold - this lets the light in and illuminates the cameo when worn.
It has a sturdy long pin with a c-ring clasp - and there is a suspension loop at the top.
The overall height of the cameo is 5 cm and the width is 4.3 cm
The overall weight of my lovely brooch is just over 12 grams (12.2 grams).
As you can see from my photographs - it is in lovely condition.
It will be sent in a nice plain black gift box.
The cameo is nice and clean - with no damages; any white marks on my photographs are not on the actual cameo but are reflections from the sheen of the shell used.
Postage here is for next day special delivery.
