Tudor Pottery was independent Staffordshire pottery that flourished from the 1920s-1940s. It created stylised geometric vases or jugs and often used a dripware glaze in bright colours. The pottery was never high quality in production and was more utilitrian in design and function.
This large jug would have looked attractive in a rustic Art Deo kitchen. How jolly and colourful it would have looked on a country cottage window sill or large pine dining table with sprays of summer blooms in it.
I have two of these for sale. The glaze has been hand applied - the main body colour is a sunshine yellow with leaf green runny glazes around the neck and along the top of the handle. Below the green is further bright tangerine dripping glazes - they run down the sides all around and stop at the base.
This one has more of the tangerine colour coating the yellow base undercoat - and more green coloured drips running down the sides. Both are different - both are lovely!
It is maked on the base: TUDOR / Made in England.
Both these vases stood for the last 20 years on the black slate mantlepiece in my snug sitting room. I have just decided to list them to free up a little space at home!
