This is a stylish little antique Arts and Crafts copper ink well.
It dates to the early 20th century - it is not so over-elaborate as you might find on Victorian examples. It is very pared down in design and form - with emphasis on lines and function rather than fancy decoration
The well is made of copper - with a now darker patina to the metal which has occured with age. The interior still has a more red tone to the metal, as photographed.
The inkwell has its original ceramic pot inside. This is in good condition - and has a gold gilt rim.
The inkwell lid is hinged and tilts backwards. The only decoration is the inset Ruskin style ceramic cabouchon on the lid. This is also in excellent condition with no damage.
I love the shape of this inkwell when held so that you can view it side on - it is finely made. I love the little stepped foot.
Height 2 ¼ inches. Diameter is 3 ¾ inches. The foot has a diameter of 1 ¾ inches and the Ruskin Cabouchon is 1 ¾ inches.
The inkwell has no maker's mark or signature. I have been unable to find another one following this design - so it is quite a rare survivor.
I will cap UK postage for you at £5.50 - but probably will add to the postage so that it can be sent to you Special Next Day Delivery so that it is fully insured in transit. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
