This is a fabulous and much sought-after original Edwardian Art Nouveau Desk or Table Lamp.
It is one of two similar designs that I have available on my online store. This is the smaller of the two - it comes with an attractive vaseline shade. The other is larger and retains a tear-drop-shaped pressed metal shade.
It was made by John Dugdill of Stockport, Manchester - and has their patent stamp on the base. It is an early design by the company that was considered to be a pioneer of industrial lighting.
My lamp dates to around 1910 and is a very substantial antique one made from solid brass with a very heavy cast base. The base has the two original round-headed machine screws that secure the weighted base. There is an impressed Dugdill's patent mark on the base, as photographed.
As you can see from all my photographs, this lamp is in excellent antique condition with no damages. It is nice and clean - with an attractive sheen to the brass. It comes complete with a good quality opalescent vaseline shade - the shade looks a little like a "bell-flower" and goes perfectly with the flower joints on the lamp itself. There is dark blue felt on the base.
The base is circular with a stepped decoration with a band of elongated petal shapes around - again which fits in well with the flower theme.
From the base issues the main arm section of the lamp. The main arm can be moved back and forward to a variety of different angles. The position is held in place by a matching pair of flower-head screws at the bottom.
At the top of the main arm is slightly smaller flower screws that allow you to position the short arm that holds the bulb holder. The bulb holder has been replaced to conform to modern safety standards - and has an earth point and on-off button toggle.
The lamp has been re-wired and earthed with about 4 meters of black cloth three-core cable - so all ready for you to just use.
Dimensions: Fully extended upwards - the lamp measures from base to top bulb holder: 13 1/2 inches. The diameter of the base is 4 1/4 inches.
Fully extended with the shade is 16 1/4 inches.
The shade is a beautiful one - and dates to the Edwardian era - contemporary to the lamp. It certainly looks fabulous on this lamp. It is made of an opalescent vaseline shade. It is in perfect condition with no damages. If retailed on its own - it would probably have a price tag of £200 on it.
Shade dimensions: 4 1/4 inches in height - diameter at the widest is over 6 inches. With a standard 1 1/8 inch diameter where the bulb goes.
So as you can see this is a quality antique lamp, hard to find and in such fine condition. My lamp is highly collectable and is listed at a very fair price.
