This is a very collectable antique 19th-century / possibly early 20th-century teether for a little baby.
They are now hard to find items - and this is reflected in my asking price which is a very fair one.
This item was made from carved cow bone - possibly by a French prisoner of war in the UK To pass the time - prisoners would have made models and little carved items from found materials in their camp. It has also been suggested that these little antique teethers could also be made by workers at Sheffield who were involved in carving handles of forks and knives made there - and again, carved these wee tools to help pass the time.
This teething ring has lots of little carved tools added to a ring. These carvings take the form of household tools - there are ten in total plus the ring from which the tools hang.
Each tool is about 9 cm (3 1/2 inches) in length.
We have the ring: plus scissors, a file, a cleaver, a cricket bat, a pair of pinchers, a bread knife, a fish, two decorative lengths or tabs, and an ax or chopper.
I have priced each little item in this lot at a very fair £10 per piece.
All pieces are in good condition - probably an item for the more specialist collector.
