This is a fine Scandinavian bentwood box.
t has the traditional lift off lid and is decorated all over with pin prick decoration around the sides - with entwined mythical creatures. The top of the lid is has a pin prick lion rampant design surmounted by a crown. It is in a shield or crest - filled in with red.
The box is a one and is made of bent pine or birch wood and held in place by two fine strips of wood as a fastening. It is a good quality antique box. I think that this old tine is probably a 19th Century Porridge Pot.
I think that this box is probably more likely to be Norwegian in origin. I think that the lion image on the lid related to the Coat of Arms for Norway. This crest represents the monarchy and the Kingdom of Norway. I love the depiction of the entwined Norse dragons around the sides.
The box is in a good condition for its age - with no chips or losses. The delicate handle on the lid is still intact and has not been restored. I have taken lots of imags for your inspection.
Dimensions: The diameter is 6 3/4 inches. The height of side section is 3 1/2 inches.
