This is a lovely antique snuff box which dates from the mid to late 19th century.
It is a lovely box and made of horn - both top, ribbed decorative sides, and the bottom.
The box also has a nice decorative Amethyst on the top which is set into the lid by a little band of silver (not hallmarked due to the size of the band - but it is silver). The stone is inset into a round aperture in the lid which allows the light to filter through the amethyst and to bring out its fine cut facets and pretty heather colour.
A very nice box which is in very good antique condition with no damages, cracks or chips.
The lid and base are made separately and the lid just lifts off.
On stylistic basis - I would imagine that this lovely snuff box is Scottish in origin and dates to the early Victorian period.
It is a nice larger size - measuring 9.5 x 6.5 cm. The height of the box is 2.5 cm
