This is a very fabulous antique heavy ormolu brass chamberstick dating to the late Victorian period - but looking back to Baroque designs for inspiration.
With its exuberent decoration and design - it is probably Continental, rather than British in origin.
It is decorated with profuse floral decorations - which includes insects including bees, butterflies, dragonflies and intricate scrolls.
The chamberstick carrying handle decorated with shells, and at one end is a grotesque mask head.
There are four lion feet surmounted with masks on the base.
On the scone is the head of a female goddess.
It comes complete with its original case snuffer - which takes the form of a small gryphon or grotesque devil figure - complete with pointed tail.
Dimensions: 11 inches overall length. Diameter is 6 ¼ inches. Height (not including snuffer) is about 4 inches.
The snuffer is 3 inches in height.
The handle has a length of 5 inches.
This is a really beautiful item which is reflected in my asking price - it is in gorgeous antique condition with no issues or repairs.
