This is a really fabulous vintage evening bag or purse, dating to the 1920s / 1930s.
The bag is made of glass beads - with a main background colour of dark blue-black, and a geometric pattern of abstract flowers in blues and emerald green colours - each edged with golden yellow beads. is white and yellow diamond shapes.
There is looped fringing along the bottom - this is all present.
At the top is a black hard celluloid / bakelite clasp - and love the handle made from black celluloid long links - a mark of quality! The opening catch is very unusual in that it raises up like a drawbridge to the sides to open and to close lowers and fits snug over the two clasp edges on each side of the bag.
The handle and chain is in excellent condition - all held in place on the main beaded textile by tiny wee vintage pins or pegs.
The bag has its original dark blue lining which has a subtle printed purple pattern on it - and lined all around the edges with old gold brocade border.
There are no damages, holes or losses to any of the beading on the main body section. It is certainly in "special as new" vintage condition - you would certainly be happy with it - of course also lovely and clean - it looks like it has been stored in a drawer for decades.
Height to top of the clasp from the bottom of the bag is 9 1/2 inches (not including the fringes) – and width is 7 1/2 inches. So a lovely size for modern use - could fit most of your accessories etc for a special formal night out - or just as a fantastic addition to your collection.
As you can see a really lovely vintage flapper bag.
