This is a fabulous antique inkwell made in Austrian at the beginning of the 20th century.
It is really a lovely large example and would look stunning on a desk in a den - or in more formal office.
It would also look just fine as a display piece in a collection of Continental Art Nouveau metalware.
As you can see it is a very stylish and well-made example.
This is a personal item which I have owned for a long time - but sadly am deciding on parting with it.
It is in nice condition and contains a glass inkwell (not original to the brass section, but certainly a very good and snug fit).
On the base it reads: Geschutzt / Real Bronce [sic] / and Depose.
As you can see it is in very good antique condition and with a glorious gleam to the metal.
I love the little handles on this piece - which are formed from two leaves.
The lid is nicely shaped and hinged. The inkwell has integrated feet as shown in my photographs.
It is a nice wide size and the section in front of the raised inkwell would also serve as a pen rest - where you could display your favourite dip pen.
It measures just under 9 inches in width, with a depth of 5 inches and a height of around 2 1/2 inches,
Nice solid cast piece - which is just over 630 grams in weight.
In nice condition and ready just to pop on display. As a nice quality piece in good condition, this is reflected in my asking price.
