This is a highly collectable piece of vintage Italian design.
It is a Spyros ashtray which was designed by Eleonore Peduzzi Riva in 1969.
Although it is classified as an ashtray - it is probably more effective as a sculptural piece for display.
The main body is made from a bright yellow plastic with an impressed spiral as decoration - into the spiral section sits a large heavy plastic ball - this is original to the piece.
It is signed to the bottom as follows: Artemide Milano, Posacenere Spiros, Design Eleonore Peduzzi Riva, Patent Pending.
It is in excellent vintage condition - with no signs of it ever being used as an ashtray - the yellow colour is nice and bright and there is no scratching or scuffing to the plastic. The ball is the original black one (7 cm diameter) and also in good condition.
The yellow base is 21.5 cm square and has a height of 3.5 cm.
