This is lovely vintage paperweight - made in Scotland, and it is probably an early one made by Vasart Glass in the 1950s. The glass dome is more globular in shape and has a more grey tone to the glass - rather than being crystal clear - this grey tone is often found in Vasart weights.
There is no maker's cane to be seen in this weight, and again this is consistent with what you might find in Vasart examples.
There is an attractive black ground, into which the millefiori canes are placed. There is also a polished pontil mark on the base.
The central cane is a lilac one - surrounded by red and orange millefiori - from the central rosette issues a total of 7 short ribbon latticino spokes. In between each spoke are three large millefiori canes - one lilac and blue one and then a pair of sky blue and turquoise ones.
The diameter at the widest point is 3 inches and the height is just over 2 1/4 inches. It is a bit of a larger weight with a higher crown section - so it is more the shape of a ball.
There are no damages or scratches to the glass. There is one tiny floating air bubble inside the crown. Any white marks that you might see on the weight in my photographs are not on the paperweight itself and are not scratching- but are merely reflections caused by the light when taking the snaps.
