This is a fabulous original 1930s Art Deco coin tray.
The base section is made of polished dark brown granite or marble - which has a reservoir or round dip in the centre of it. This little depression would have been where you might have popped little silver six-pence pieces - to keep handy. It could also be used as a pin dish.
I don't think that it has every been used. The marble on the base is completely scratch-free and has no condition issues. It has a nice shine to it.
The decoration is a beautifully modelled miniature sculpture of a greyhound. It stands on a semi-circular metal stand section - which was designed to fit perfectly onto the base. The greyhound model is screwed onto the stone through the base as photographed. It is firmly attached with no wobble factor.
The modelling of the dog is very fine - with a good expressive face. The details on the body shows the muscles on the hound. Often, you find greyhound models with hardly any attention to finer anatomical details - and often with prominent ribs. My greyhound is certainly a very attractive sculpture.
Dimensions: The base just over 10 cm in diameter (4 inches). The height of the base is 2 cm (3 /4 inch). The length from its forepaw to the top of the dog's head is 8 cm (3 1/4 inches). The length from its nose to its rump is 10.5 cm (4 1/8 inches). The weight unpacked is 650 grams.
It is a lovely vintage Deco model, and it certainly looks so fabulous on display. It is in fantastic condition with no condition issues - the plate is all present and there are no chips or restorations. I have been unable to find another quite like it. My price reflects its relative rarity, age and condition.
