This is such a novelty book. It dates to 1890 - 1893. It has 384 pages containing some 13,000 words. The text is set in 1-1/2 pt type. It can certainly be considered a masterpiece of Victorian miniature printing.
It is a teeny weeny dictionary entitled on the titlepage "The Smallest English Dictorian in the World". It was publish by David Bryce and Son in Glasgow. Opposite the title page is a tiny image of the lexicographer, Samuel Johnson.
The case is in good condition - but is missing its little carrying hook on the top - there is a little remanant of the metal flap which would have held the ring in place - so it might be possible to have a new one added. However, I have taken this into consideration with my pricing.
The book is in excellent condition with a cover of thin dark red leather with gold lettering on the front and on the spine "ENGLISH DICTIONARY", on the back is the word "PEARS". All pages are present and there are no inscriptions or tears etc.
The little book comes in a protective metal case - with a tiny glass viewing window (or magnifying glass, intact) on the front. There is embossed lettering on the metal cover: The Smallest Dictionary in the World with Magnifying Glass. t is hinged on the side. The inside is still nice and shiny. On the back is an image is a view of an old fashioned private library with a world globe resting on a pile of books. The case measures 3.5 cm in height and 2.8 cm wide. It is a cm in depth.
I have a second example listed. That one is slightly more expensive as it retains its little original carrying ring. The two books that I have are in my last photograph on this listing.
The little book will be sent to you in a sturdy box. It would have to be sent as a small parcel with tracking with the Royal Mail.
