This is certainly a fine and very interesting Scottish paperweight.
It was made by the paperweight artist, Helen MacDonald.
It is entitled Baptism and is part of the Helen MacDonald's Biblical Series.
It from a very small limited of only 75 weights (fully subscribed) and on its release it had a price ticket of £225.
This one No. 26 out of the 75 issued as inscribed on the base.
It is a very intricate design and would have taken great skill to have made this one.
The weight is a ball shape - with a flat faceted viewing window to the front - on the back is a deeply engraved star shape - which shows as a dramatic pattern when viewed through the front.
Inside, there is a little miniature scene showing a baptism - a man, a simple abstracted figure, is showing in a loose robe with his hands raised in blessing. He stands in a river - at his feet is another abstract figure of a man who is dressed in white and is kneeling in the waters. A white dove of peace flies above the scene.
The base colour is a bright blue shade to represent the water of the river.
Obviously with such a small edition number - this is a much harder weight to source.
It is in good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. There is one has a very fine scratch on the base - possibly done in the making? but no other issue. This is not visible on display.
Dimensions: Height is 3 inches - and at the widest point it is 3 1/4 inches.
Unpacked it weights: 700 grams.
