This is certainly a fine and very interesting Scottish paperweight.
It was made by the paperweight artist, Helen MacDonald.
It is entitled David and Goliath and is part of the Helen MacDonald's Biblical Series.
She started her biblical series in 1995 with a weight entitled Covenant - and has produced a total of 10 designs for the series.
This piece shows David challenging the mighty Goliath - the giant towers over the much smaller figure of David in the foreground.
It from a limited of only 200 weights and on its release it had a price ticket of £195.
This one is No. 50 out of the 200 issued as inscribed on the base.
It is a very intricate design and would have taken great skill to have made this one.
The weight is a ball shape - with a flat faceted viewing window to the front - on the back is a deeply engraved star shape - which shows as a dramatic pattern when viewed through the front.
Inside, there is a little miniature scene showing simple and abstracted forms of David and Goliath The base is an emerald green colour.
This is a harder weight to source and probably an item for the more specialist Caithness collector.
It is in good vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
Dimensions: Height is 3 inches - and at the widest point it is 3 1/4 inches.
Unpacked it weighs: 700 grams.
