This is certainly a fine and very interesting Scottish paperweight.
It was made by the paperweight artist, Helen MacDonald.
It is entitled Sapphire Chasm.
It is a very rare paperweight - indeed, it is a unique issue - this one being the only one of this design ever issued - as marked to the base 1/1 (together with the designer's name etc).
It is a very intricate design and would have taken great skill to have made this one.
The weight is a ball shape - with a flat faceted viewing window to the front - on the back is a deeply engraved star shape - which shows as a dramatic pattern when viewed through the front. A form that MacDonald specialized in making.
This weight is made of blue glass - and when you look into the viewing facet at the front - you can see a large single flower head. The flower is made up of pale peppermint green and white grainy petals - inside is a pink stamen section. The edge of the viewing window has a thick beveled edge.
A most unusual weight for your collection.
CONDITION REPORT: the weight is in very good vintage condition - probably dating to the late 1990s (please see my other Helen MacDonald weights in my Iconic Edinburgh online shop). There are no chips, cracks, or scratches.
However, there is the tiniest and most minute fleabite on the edge of one of the engraved facets to the back to the weight - it is probably smaller than the head of a pin - but although very minor in nature it is there are affects my asking price.
If perfect I would have been looking at about £135 for this one.
Dimensions: The height and the diameter is about 3 inches
Unpacked it weighs: 650 grams.
