This is an interesting paperweight dating to around the 1970s.
You do not see them very often for sale in the UK as Le Mailloche Beauport glass was made in Quebec in Canada. It is etched on the base with the name of the studio glassworks.
These weights (and decanters etc) were made by Jean Vallieres (1947 - 2009) at his Beauport studio. He looked to primitive and antique glass forms for inspiration. This weight has a green tinge to the glass and random swirls inside and lots of tiny random air bubbles. It has a rough pontil that has not been polished.
An example of his work (a beautiful pink and gold leaf vase) is in the Royal Collection Trust. It was presented to Queen Elizabeth II by the Mayor of Quebec during her Commonwealth visit to Canada in October 1987.
Dimensions: Height 2 1/4 inches. Diameter 3 1/4 inches.
The paperweight weighs unpacked is 650 grams.
An interesting piece - prices for Vallieres work are still relatively low - so your chance to grab yourself a bargain!
Postage in the UK would be £4.95 with the Royal Mail and this would be applied at checkout.
