These telescopic views of events have always fascinated me - they had a few on display down at Pollock's Toy Museum in London. a few years ago.
These concertina telescopic views or peepshows were extremely popular in the Victorian age. The peepshow consisted of different views of a scene of procession seen in perspective. When they were all pulled out they formed a long viewing corridor - and when you looked along the scene via the peephole at the front sheet, you would see a long 3-Dimensional image of the whole scene. These were particularly dramatic when showing theatrical events and stages - or grand processions. These early ones are highly sought after and fetch very high prices.
This one is more modern and dates to 1977. It was made as a special souvenir for the Queen's Silver Jubliee by the company Tim's Telescopic Views. My peepshow shows an appropriate view of the Coronation Procession of Queen Elizabeth. It looks from Admiralty Arch, all along the Mall towards Buckingham Palace. It comprises of a front cover, backdrop, and 8 cut-out panels that are attached on the vertical edges with accordion-folded strips. The fourth panel displays the Queen's carriage, the seventh the Victoria Memorial, and the eighth the gates in front of Buckingham Palace.
The style of the printed view looks back to the Victorian ones - but the box is more modern in design. The actual peepshow should be stored in the pink box when not in use to keep it nice and safe. This one is in excellent condition with no damages.
When it was retailed - it would have been placed in a clear plastic bag - and the grey instructions sheet would have been in the bag - there is a hole at the top of this card where the whole thing would have hung in the shop on a metal peg. This card is in good condition but has a little creasing to one corner, as photographed.
I have taken a lot of images for your inspection. These panoramic views / optical toys (even these modern ones) are hard to find, especially in fine condition.
