This is a lovely larger size vintage handbag or evening bag. It dates to about the 1940s.
It is a tapestry style bag with a chain handle and a fancy gold-tone clasp closure, as photographed. The clasp is decorated with tiny palmettes and three blue coloured stones.
The main body of the bag is black and covered on both side with matching petit point decoration - the stitching is in miniature and in excellent clean condition - the bag has a border running around the sides of the bag, again as photographed. This border edge consists of bold red oblong shapes against the black.
The interior of the bag is in warm honey-cream taffeta which is totally clean - with no signs of any use. It is as nice as the day that it was made. There are two little pocket sections on the inside - where you could perhaps store your bank card to use when out and about. It is a larger size for one of these vintage tapestry bags and will hold lots of your personal items in - and great for formal occasions. It will take your phone, purse, make-up and evening a comb or small hairbrush.
The nice condition, quality of the clasp and size are reflected in my fair asking price.
It is certainly a beautiful example and looks like it has been stored away from the day that it was made and never used. Comes from a smoke-free house,
Dimensions of the bag body - is about 9 1/4 inches in height including the clasp - the width is just under 10 inches. The drop including the handle is 15 inches.
