This is a vintage 1960s print by Sir Gerald Kelly (1879 – 1972).
It is entitled Ma Aung Saw Myawng II. She was a Burmese girl and one of the finest dancers in Mandalay. She was painted by Kelly during his stay in Burma in 1907.
It is a lithographic copy of the original oil painting by Kelly. Prints after his works were very popular in the 1960s - and they were often hung in mid-century interiors with similar works by Tretchikoff to give a taste of the exotic.
This print after Kelly is perennially popular and is an iconic image - it is listed at a good price.
It is a genuine 60s issue and is sold in its original frame - it is a good quality vintage frame from the top Edinburgh framers: Mathiesons (their old label is on the back). The frame is glazed.
The frame measures 57 x 42 cm. The image size is 41 x 27 cm.
The print is in excellent vintage condition with no fading or damage. The colours are all nice and bright. The frame is a period one and also in good condition.
