This is a late 20th century piece of British studio pottery.
It takes the form of a chunky, squat pot with a flat fitted lid. It is decorated with a rich tenmoku glaze with random black mottled tiger stripe decoration. Studio Pottery. It is a more unusual piece for him.
It has a diameter of 7 1/2 inches and a height of 5 1/2 inches.
It has an impressed mark towards the stoneware base - an entwined KS. I think that this is the mark for Keith Smith. It probably dates to the 1980s.
Keith Smith was born in London in 1946. In the early 1970s he attended Harrow Art School studying Studio Pottery. In 1979 he established the Otterton Mill Pottery in Devon where he worked until 1999. Keith has recently returned to making pottery and works from his base at Colyton.
