This is a highly collectable piece of mid-century art pottery ceramics.
It is a very attractive ide-poche or small shallow tray dish.
It is not dated and probably dates to the early 1950s.
It was made by Guido Gambone (1909 - 1969). He was born in Montella, Italy and started his artistic career as a painter before turning to ceramics in the 1930s. His pottery is characterized by its bold shapes, vibrant colors, and playful designs.
This little plate by him has been handmade and has a hand-painted comical design of a little donkey by Gambone. The plate is also signed on the back with Gambone's donkey mark, as photographed.
Dimensions: 8 x 6 1/4 x x 1 1/2 inches.
It is in very good vintage condition - with some time-related craquelure to the glaze, as photographed in close-up for you. There are no chips, cracks, or any restoration. Please note that the close-up images of the craquelure of the glaze is highly exaggerated - and it is not nearly so obvious or prominent in "real life".
Guido Gambone was one of the most prominent Italian ceramicists of the 20th century, and this is reflected in my asking price for this very special piece. This work is held in many prestigious private collections and museums worldwide.
