This is a fine piece of Scottish studio glass from the Borders.
Julia Linstead was born in Birmingham in 1966 and studied at Sunderland Polytechnic. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Glass and Ceramics.
Linstead initially set up her studio in Sunderland in 1989 but moved to Coldstream, Berwickshire in 1992. In 1991 she was awarded a Gold Medal by the Prince's Youth Business Trust and in 1992 was awarded 1st Place New Designer Gift Award by the Giftware Association. Julia’s glass features unique etchings that mostly focus on floral patterns. The floral motifs are carefully selected according to the shape and colour of vessels and vases. The glassware is hand-blown by the Scottish glass artist, Jane Charles, with whom Julia collaborates.
It is a hand-blown glass bowl - It features an attractive floral design etched into a beautiful piece of amethyst glass. This stunning rich purple-coloured shallow bowl is decorated with a single large lily flower head. It is so beautifully delineated and all the petals look so life-like. The pattern has been hand-drawn by Linstead and sandblasted into the surface of the glass, so it is a completely unique piece of art glass.
Since setting up in Scotland, Julia has shown her work in several exhibitions in Scotland, England, and San Francisco. She also supplies work to Henrie Bendel, New York, and the Museum of Science, San Francisco
The shallow dish stands on a small circular foot - which is signed with the name of the artist. My bowl is priced at a fair price for this stunning unique piece by this artist.
It is just under 8 inches in diameter, and in excellent condition with no damage.
It will be sent with Royal Mail 2nd Class Recorded Mail - this will be capped at £4.95 and applied to your order at the checkout.
