This is a very attractive original photogravure print by the Scottish artist, Norman McBeath.
It is an unusual technique in that it consists of an original photograph by McBeath which he has transferred onto an etching print and then inked and printed.
Printmaking is an important aspect of Norman McBeath's work. He specializes in photogravures using a traditional etching press, printing limited editions on fine art paper. He has exhibited as part of exhibitions in Britain and other countries including Japan, Finland, Denmark, Romania, Canada, and the United States.
A number of his photogravures are held in collections including those of the University of Edinburgh, Gracefield Arts Centre, the Scottish Poetry Library, and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.
This fine print is an artist's proof (annotated A/P in pencil, bottom left) and then signed in pencil by the artist, lower right.
It is an attractive image of a group of white lilies.
Norman McBeath is an artist & photographer based in Edinburgh. He was well-established and he has over 50 of his portraits in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Galleries in London and Edinburgh.
He is widely exhibited with works being shown in London, Edinburgh, and New York. One of his exquisite photogravures was included in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2016.
This beautiful image of lilies is from a series of works that he made featuring flowers and focuses on capturing all the delicate details of the blooms.
His prints are usually from a small edition of only 35 impressions - and are often smaller in scale.
This little photogravure measures 10.5 x 8.5 cm and comes in a gold-coloured frame which is finished with a thick silver-coloured wash.
The frame measures 25.5 x 20 cm. Nice and clean and ready to hang.
It is certainly a charming work by this acclaimed Scottish printmaker and photographer.
I have two works by him in my Iconic Edinburgh online store.
