This is a lovely vintage tapestry / embroidered bag - it dates to the 1930s and is Art Deco in style. It is probably inspired by Aztec Revival designs that were popular in the 1920s and 30s. Tapestry bags with these designs are harder to source.
The bag is created from a fine textile made of tiny petit point or needlework stitches. The main body colour is a cream tone - and the pattern is an Art Deco-inspired geometric one - based on abstracted floral patterns.
I have taken a lot of images showing the pattern and all details of the bag - please inspect all of these carefully - as they form part of my description here.
The pattern is the same on both sides. Given the age of the bag - it is nice and clean, with no tears, stains or nasty smells. It has a one-inch band around the sides which gives more room inside for storing things.
The clasp is lovely with cute floral details - I think of entwined sunflowers - and decorated with textured dots. There are two metal balls at the top of the clasp opening - which you toggle to open the bag up. It has original hanging loops on the clasp - but I think that it is now missing the original handle - and this has been replaced some long ago time in the past with an Old Gold tone ribbon. As the hooks are still present and secure - it would be very easy to add a new gold chain to the bag.
The interior of the bag has its original peach shot-silk lining - this is also nice and clean with no stains or tears.
Dimensions: from the bottom of the bag to the top of the curved area of the clasp is 20 cm. The width is at the widest 18.5 cm. The depth of the bag is 3 cm.
The price of my bag takes into account the rarer 30s Aztec pattern, and condition - but also the loss of the original handle and replacement ribbon.
