This is a lovely genuine vintage tapestry / embroidered bag - it dates to the 1930s and is Art Deco in style.
It has a fine Bauhaus-inspired pattern - the design is the same on both sides.
It is generally nice and clean - with no tears, stains, or nasty smells.
It has an amazing Deco handle made of amber bakelite - it also has the original owner's business card inside - with a posh Edinburgh address. The handles are in fantastic condition and the clasp closes at the top with a slip-over catch - as photographed.
I love the abstract pattern of the tapestry. The lining is pink and blue soft stripes - with little ruffled silk flowers covering the border between the textile section of the bag and the bakelite handles inside.
Generally clean inside and outside - with some signs of it being used occasionally nearly 100 years ago - but a most unusual Deco clutch bag. There are two original bakelite rings on the side - where you could probably attach a ribbon handle.
Price takes into account the rarity, the fabulous Bakelite clasp section, and the stylish Deco Bauhaus pattern. Very avant-guarde!
Dimensions: the height including handle 21 cm. The width is 24.5 cm and the depth of the bag is about 2.5 cm
