This is a very collectable piece of British Art Pottery.
It was made by Upchurch - and has an impressed Upchurch mark on the base, as photographed.
The pottery was established in 1909 in Kent by the Wakely brothers. The most significant name associated with Upchurch Pottery is Edward Barker who established himself within the company before officially purchasing it in 1953.
Edward passed away in 1955 but his older son William carried on the business until 1963 when sadly Upchurch Pottery ceased.
This vase is a lovely example with no damage.
It is a most attractive colour with subtle hazy blue and grey shades, with running glazes. It is a fine tall shape of minimalistic form.
These Upchurch studio pieces rely on their simplicity of shape combined with subtle variations in pastel colours on a thick eggshell glaze.
I have taken a lot of images for your inspection turning the vase around for these so you can see all the subtle variations all around the glaze. As you can see it runs slightly down the side of the vase and pools on the base section.
A very simple and stylish piece of Upchurch and a fine taller example.
Unpacked the weight is just over 1.8 kg
It is a larger size being some 12 1/4 inches in height and with a diameter at the widest point of about 5 1/2 inches.
It is a heavy piece - and this is reflected in my postage quote.
