This is a lovely vintage solid silver 1940s compact for pressed powder.
It is in good vintage condition with a clean mirror.
It is a lovely simple design with an intricate engine-turned textured pattern on the top and bottom of the compact.
It has a Birmingham hallmark for the year 1946. There is also the mark R D & Co - for the maker's R Davis & Co of Birmingham.
It has a little circular lozenge on the top of the lid - which is lightly engraved with the girl's name: Kay. This could be polished off and re-engraved - but it is not so invasive in the design. The compact also has a little ding or dent to the edge of the top as photographed. You do not really notice this when you are using the compact.
Those are the only condition issues with this.
The engine-turned decorative engraving on the compact is very intricate and just lovely.
The top opens to reveal the interior - there is a mirror in the lid (nice and clean with no spotting on it so you can see your face quite clearly). Below is the powder reservoir - which has a locking silver cover as photographed. All the hinges are nice and secure.
A beautiful silver powder compact which given that it is now over 60 years old - is in excellent condition.
The hinge is secure and opens and closes easily - with no sticking or the lid flapping open.
A nice solid silver hallmarked compact - hardly used and now just short just over 75 years old.
The total weight (unpacked) is a very generous 120 grams (including the weight of the mirror - it would scrap at about £65 - so my asking price is a fair one). It is a nice larger size too with a diameter of 8 cm.
I have taken into account the light name inscription and also the wee dent to the edge.
