This is a lovely vintage piece of blu vietri Italian Art Pottery.
It dates to the 1960s / 1970s and was made by Bruno Gambone.
It is a heavy shallow bowl - made of stoneware with a mottled deep blue and black salt glaze finish. It is very sculptural in form.
It has Gambone's typical signature on the base: GAMBONE / Italy, as photographed.
The bowl has a flared and flattened rim. It is 7 1/4 inches in diameter at the base. The inner diameter is 4 3/4 inches. The height is just over 1 1/2 inches.
A sturdy piece of pottery - it is 550 grams unpacked.
It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. A lovely and collectable piece of Gambone pottery.
BRUNO Gambone was the son of the ceramic maestro, Guido Gambone. He was born in 1936 in Vietri sul Mare, Italy. In 1959 he exhibited his works for the first time in the La Strozzina Gallery in Florence.
He moved to New York in the 1960s and became immersed in its flourishing arts scene. During this time, he focused solely on painting. When his father died in 1969, he returned to Tuscany in order to manage his family’s studio.
