This is a highly collectable antique textile dating to the early 19th century.
It is a genuine antique sampler - and is being sold as such with all your consumer rights in place.
This one is now over 170 years old - and for its age, it is certainly in fine antique condition.
It is of a standard size - and the ground textile layer is in good condition with no holes - it has a nice clean linen tone - which has darkened a little naturally over the years and it is a beige colour commensurate with age. There is a nice weave on the material and fine cross stitching throughout.
I will describe what features in the sampler from the top down.
The top of the sampler has two complete alphabets and some random numbers and some more random letters - all in red, green and dark blue colours. There are decorative lines running horizontally.
Towards the bottom, we have some pictorial images of hearts, flowers and three wee girls in red dresses and black hats.
The name of the stitcher is Margaret Liddell and the date 1848 is at the bottom right-hand corner.
All the colours remain quite bright and relatively unfaded. The cotton / linen is in a pretty clean and unstained condition with no tears or rips. The embroidered threads are generally all whole with no losses.
Dimensons: Frame Size is 36.5 x 30.5. The textile size is 28.5 x 21. cm
It is a lovely one – and looks good on display.
It has been re-framed in relatively recent times. The frame is a nice sturdy oak one. The frame is just fine with no condition issues. The frame has some age to it - but it is NOT original to the sampler. Taken lots of images for your inspection.
It is nice and clean and you could have it straight on your wall.
It will cost £10 to post to you in the UK with Parcelforce24. This will be applied at the checkout out stage of your order.
Dimensions: Frame size is 67 x 42.5 cm Image size is 52 x 28.5 cm
It is listing at a fair price for a fine Scottish textile created in the 1840s.
I have taken lots of images for your inspection.
