This is a fine decorative piece - and will look great on a mantlepiece or period Victorian interior.
It is a genuine antique piece - dating to the late 19th century.
It is beautifully modelled with great three-dimensional modelling and a figurine more in the round than your usual flatback ones.
The figurine is sparse in the addition of colour - so that you can concentrate on the fine modelling - only a touch of pink blush inside the top of the tree stump, the flesh of the man and woman and their little shoes.
The model shows a couple who are placed beside a tree stump - as is a common device in these antique spill vases.
A spill vase would have been placed on your mantlepiece or in the kitchen and you would have popped long tapers or spills to light lamps and fires etc into. Often, they used a tree in the composition to store the spills. The spread of spills would have resembled the branches of the tree when on display.
The lady is seated on the base of the tree - the folds of her dress and depicted with great detail. Her arm is away from her body - and her other hand holds a jug or pitcher. The gentleman stands behind her - and again - he is more of a figurine than a flatback. I have taken lots of images for your inspection - from all angles.
It is certainly a fine larger piece. It is 12 1/2 inches in height. The width and the widest point is 7 inches. And it has a depth of 4 inches.
It is certainly a very attractive and highly decorative piece - in excellent condition with no damages.
