This is a large "off piece" of mid-century Studio or Art Pottery.
I am dating it to the late 1960s to the mid-1970s on stylistic grounds. It is a very large size - and looks quite stunning on display.
It has an overall height of about 12 inches - and with a diameter of around 7 1/2 inches. It weighs a stonking 2kg in weight.
It is a very sculptural and dramatic piece when on display.
It is of elongated ovoid form - and is made from heavy earthenware pottery. The main body is covered with a very thick layer of cream eggshell finish glaze. The potter has cut geometric channels into the glaze - a check pattern with carefully places vertical dashes. They have then filled this in with a glossy black glaze, as photographed.
It looks very stylish and would look fabulous on display in a mid-century futurist interior - or with your Scandi-modern furniture.
It has certainly taken some time and skill to make this piece. Sadly, from the simple incised C mark on the base (as photographed) I have been unable to identify the maker. If I had made this - I would made sure my name was all over it!!!
It is a unique hand made vintage piece - and is very attractive - I have taken this into account with my pricing - given that I have been unable to give it a firm attribution.
Sadly, due to weight and size - I would be unable to post it outside of the UK. It will be sent to you with Parcelforce 48. This will cost £10 and applied to your order at check out.
