These little faux fur gonks are rare survivors from the late 1960s / early 1970s.

I had a few of these when I was young but sadly  - they disappeared long ago!

Gonks were originally created by an English inventor called Robert Benson and they went on to be popular novelty toys - after being endorsed by celebrities such as Ringo Starr and Peter Sellers.  They were often made of wood with fuzzy hair and google eyes - there were even Beatles Gonks!

I am also listing a very rare fabric gonk - which resembled Humpty in the children's TV programme Play School.

These fuzzy simple hairy ones were often given out as prizes at fairgrounds on skill games such as shooting ranges, coconut shies etc. These Gonks prize toys had a signature design that featured include a small, spherical body, a brightly coloured furry texture hair, and two googly eyes. They always reminded me of pieces of candy floss from the shows - transformed into toys.

They were generally not well-made items and with an expectation not to survive long. Indeed, they tended to get very dusty and tatty with tangled hair - and this resulted in many of them (like my ones) being quickly discarded.

I have been lucky enough to source a little group of fuzzy-wuzzy gonks, and I have listed these in my shop. They are uber-cute and are in surprisingly clean condition (no nasty smells)  - with still fluffy hair and no tangles.

I have taken lots of images of each of them.

This one is a very simple traditional British gonk: He has little yellow felt feet and a simple dusky pink hairy body. His eyes and nose are made of coloured plastic and he has yellow felt features. Love his little black furry face. He is about 8 1/2 inches in height.

These are special items for nostalgic collectors of quirky 1960s toys.

I would post to you in the UK in a sturdy box - this would cost £4.95 with Royal Mail Recorded post. Multiple purchases would be capped at £4.95.
