This is a rare piece of Poole Studio Pottery.
It is a 1970s lamp base that was hand-thrown by Carol Kennett at Poole. It is signed with her initials on the base and the pattern number, as photographed. Kennett was the married name of the famed Poole designer Carol Cutler.
It is one of two similar lamps made by Kennett listed on my website - but not identical - the pattern on the base is almost the same - but being handmade - there are slight differences to the design.
The pattern relates to Atlantis designs - here the bottom section of the lamp base is gouged with random abstract shapes grooves and furrows. It has a very Brutalist feel. The top section is made to resemble a subtle beige stoneware with tiny brown speckles throughout it.
Atlantis pieces are much sought after by collectors.
The lamp measures 9 in height (not including the bulb holder) and is 4 3/4 inches in diameter at the foot.
It is all re-wired and earthed - they are ready to just plug in and use. It would be set off beautifully with a simple drum shade in either cream or a chocolate colour.
The light switch to turn it on and off is located on the brass bulb holder. The lamp takes a modern bayonet-fitting lamp.
