This is a rare Screenprint by the Scottish artist, Bel Cowie.
It is entitled "Brown Eggs", and is signed in pencil and dated February '75.
From a very small edition of only 18 impressions - this one is No. 6
Dimensions: 50.8 x 41.2 cm
Bel Cowie was born in 1943 in Dundee. She was a painter in oil but is probably best known for her screenprints. Cowie trained at Gray's School of Art and Ceramische Fachschule, Berne.
Her work often reveals her fascination with Japanese prints and weaving designs. There is always a gentle delicacy in her work.
Bel Cowie exhibited regularly at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh between 1974 and 1982. Examples of her work are in the Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museum.
She died suddenly in tragic circumstances in 1983 at the early age of 40. Works by her are now very hard to find.
It is currently unframed - but the price quoted here includes having this professionally framed and mounted for you - it would be given an ivory-coloured mount and a simple oak frame. It would be £195 without the new frame.
I also have another version of this Bel Cowie print in my store - which has a printed sky blue background rather than this black shade.
