This is an attractive Scottish pottery large fruit bowl. Dating to the first half of the 20th century
The decoration is all hand-painted by Christina (Chrissie) Amour - as annotated with her initials on the base: C.C.A.
The decoration is painted onto a ceramic blank. It was common in the early 20th century for small Scottish potteries to have white ceramics supplied and decorators would paint the decoration on the blanks.
This bowl is certainly a more delicate and pretty design.
The interior of the bowl is hand-painted. There is a big peppermint green circular shape in the center - which has been painted with a large swirling brushstroke. There are long black lines - forming a pattern around - with on the white rim - there is a field of tiny little delicate flowers - painted in yellow, pink, peppermint, and royal blue shades.
The base of the bowl is painted on the outside with broadly painted thick peppermint green glazes - they are quickly applied and there is texture to the paintwork and some runs to the glaze. It shows clearly that this bowl has been hand-decorated. Any runs and texture to the exterior of the bowl is only really obvious when it is turned over and held in bright raking light.
The bowl is in good condition - it has no chips or cracks.
It is a lovely large size too - a great fruit bowl or serving dish. But really just a fabulous decorative piece for display.
Diameter: 9 3/4 inches. Height: 2 2/4 inches.
