This is another pretty piece of Victorian Scottish pottery - made by Robert Heron & Sons / Methven Pottery / Links Pottery, Kirkcaldy.

It is a very large serving platter that measures 14 x 11 1/2 inches.

Weight unpacked is 1.4 kg.

It is probably more of an item that you might display in your kitchen on a dresser - than for regular use.

Robert Methven Heron was the owner of the Fife Pottery in Kirkcaldy. He introduced a new pottery range called Wemyss Ware in 1882.

It is a fine piece of antique Scottish studio pottery. A similar pattern is shown applied to a bottle vase on page 146 of Henry Kelly's Schiffer publication "Scottish Ceramics" (1999).

It is certainly a very fresh hand-painted pattern. I have a number of pieces with this decoration on sale in my online store. This plate has no issued marks or pattern details on the back - but it has the old price sticker on the reverse on the price which it had previously been offered for sale - and purchased by a previous owner. This sticker was still on the platter when it come into my possession. There is a lightly impressed number 71 on the reverse, as photographed.

This large functional Victorian plate is in surprisingly good condition with no chips or cracks - there is a little craquelure to the glaze (generally clean and not discoloured)  - very subtle in nature and certainly not disfiguring. The glaze issues would probably prevent this platter from being used for everyday dining (dried goods such as cakes etc would probably be fine) - but certainly does not interfere with it being on display. There is no nasty staining to the pottery body.

I have taken lots of photographs of this in extreme close-up for you to assess.

The price to post in the UK will be £6.95 - this is with Royal Mail 2nd Class Recorded Medium Size parcel and applied to your order at checkout.
