This is a lovely large stoneware teapot, made by Buchan Pottery, based at Portobello, near Edinburgh (now closed).
It is certainly a most substantial piece of Scottish Pottery.
The shape of this teapot is exceptionally rare - and I have never seen another piece in this shape before. It is also a large size - and in pristine vintage condition, I don't think that it has ever been used before.
This lovely traditional Buchan pattern features a stylized abstract thistle on one side - and on the other side is a wee group of Scottish bluebells. These are all hand-painted decorations.
Dimensions: Height 9 1/2 inches - and handle to spout it 9 1/2 inches.
The thistles design is a traditionally popular pattern in the Buchan Stoneware range.
The rarity of this large Buchan Portobello pottery teapot is reflected in my asking price for it. It is probably of interest to a more specialist Buchan collector.
