This is a fabulous late 20th-century table lamp - it is certainly a more unusual one in that it is much shorter in height than regular Shattaline lamps. It is much more of a miniature tabletop example. I have never seen such a squat one before.
My vintage lamp has a crackle-resin round-shaped shattaline base which is in excellent condition. It also has its original taller beige / mink spun plastic fibre shade - like those found on the floor-standing Rocket Lamps It is much harder to find these with their original shade still present and of this more miniature size. The fine condition and rarer size of this lamp are reflected in my asking price.
The Shattaline has no chips, cracks or nasty scratches - nice and clean with attractive tangerine glistening and silvery shattered inclusions.
The tangerine orange base measures a diminutive 2 1/4 inches in height and it has a diameter of just under 4 inches across the base. The overall height including the shade is 9 inches.
The shade measures 6 inches in height and is 4 inches in diameter.
It has an on / off switch on the original brass bulb holder.
Shattaline Limited operated from the mid-1960s for about 10 years.
They made a range of products using a patented process which created a "crazed" effect within the resin.
The company was based in Scotland for a time. They made paperweights, pen holders, candle holders, lamps, table lighters - and even tables! (I actually own a coffee table which I might sell if there was serious interest).
The process for making these items was labour-intensive and craft-based and resulted in a very high level of rejection. Stattaline items were therefore relatively expensive to make, and not the cheap plastic items that people often assume them to be.
The shade is contemporary to the lamp - and is made of a cylinder of thick and firm spun plastic - with three little decorative peg features on the shade near the bottom rim.
Due to its size and weight - my lovely lamp will have to be sent to UK addresses only - the postage will be with Royal Mail Recorded and this will be £4.95 and applied to your order at the checkout.
